Want to make a simple throw quilt to wrap yourself up in while watching TV or reading a book? Now you can with this easy-to-make quilt using a Layer Cake and a Fat Quarter!
Come join Paula for three fun sessions to create this beautiful quilt and keep yourself warm in the evenings while snuggled up in your new lap quilt. You’ll learn the essentials of quilting, including cutting fabric pieces, sewing corner triangles, achieving perfect ¼” seams, and arranging your quilt to your satisfaction.
In this class, you'll focus on making the quilt top only. The quilting and binding are not included, but don't worry! You can quilt it yourself on a long arm, try free-motion quilting, use your embroidery machine (in the hoop), or even stitch in the ditch along the seams for a more traditional finish.
The pattern is free, and there’s a helpful YouTube video along with written instructions created by Paula to guide you through the process. Don't miss out on this chance to make a cozy, custom quilt you'll love!
Class 1 - Cut fabric
Class 2 and 3 - Sew Squares together and put the quilt top together.
Customer Project Requirements:
- 1 Layer Cake of Your Choice
- 1 Fat Quarter (Coordinating or Contrasting Color)
- Thread – Coordinating with your fabric (I usually use a light gray)
- Bobbin – White
- Pins or Clips
- Erasable Pen (Frixion)
- Rotary Blade Cutter
- Cutting Mat (Rotating is easiest)
- Seam Ripper
- Universal Needles
- Sewing Machine
Additional Items to finish the quilt:
- 505 Temporary Adhesive Spray
- Backing Fabric (Approximately 3¼ yards)
- I will provide a calculation sheet
- Binding Fabric (Approximately ½ yard)
- Calculation for binding: add all four sides, divide by 40, multiply 2.5 = Fabric needed
- 54+54+63+63=234 234/40=5.85 (round up to 6) 6x2.5=15” of fabric

Space is limited in all of our classes. Please, sign up early!
Please let us know at least 2 weeks in advance if you need to back out of a class. Our teachers work very hard preparing for class and to do so properly, they need to have a head count a couple of weeks before the class begins.
Because all class fees go to our teachers, we cannot refund class fees if you do not show up for a class or if you cancel less than 1 week before the start of the class.
