Creative Stitches
The Baby Lock Applaud Coverstitch Machine offers a versatile selection of stitches designed to provide professional finishes on a wide range of sewing projects. It features several coverstitch options, including narrow, wide, and triple cover stitches, allowing you to create strong, flexible seams ideal for hemming knits, finishing edges, and adding decorative touches. The chain stitch option adds another layer of versatility, perfect for seams that require extra stretch and durability.
Dual Wiper System
Baby Lock's patented Dual Wiper System on the Applaud changes how you use and look at the chain stitch. You are no longer limited by functionality. The dual wiper system delivers thread back and forth in front of the needles and over the fabric surface to create the Creative Top Cover Stitch. With a decorative thread or yarn in the wiper system, what was once a standard chain stitch is now a creative decorative stitch. Stitch multiple rows to create a unique pattern or a single row of stitching as an accent. Depending on your design, you can thread both wipers for a parallel look or just the one.
EXTRAORDINAIR THREADING
ExtraordinAir instantly takes thread through all loopers with just a gust of air. Threading has never been this fast, easy, or extraordinary! Selecting the threading position is no longer necessary. All looper threads may be threaded simultaneously or individually with this feature. You no longer will need tweezers or thread guides; plus, if a looper thread breaks or runs out, re-thread it. There is no need to follow a specific threading sequence.
AUTOMATIC THREAD DELIVERY™ (ATD) SYSTEM
The Automatic Thread Delivery System (ATD) revolutionizes needle thread tension. You no longer have to manually adjust the tension settings for the type of chain or cover stitch you are sewing. The ATD system lays the perfect amount of thread on the fabric as each stitch is formed. The fabric is not responsible for pulling the threads through the tension discs as on other machines. This means there's no stress placed on the fabric, allowing it to flow under the foot without being stretched or damaged.
KNEE LIFTER
Take control of your fabric with the help of the included knee lifter on the Applaud. This hands-free option allows you to move the presser up or down without using your hands. This attachment is easy to install and comes in handy when pivoting fabric. If you move the knee lifter to the right, the presser foot will rise, and the feed dogs will lower. When the knee lifter is returned to the left, the presser foot lowers, and the feed dogs rise.
DIFFERENTIAL FEED
Babylock has taken the differential feed to new levels by adding a single-unit feed dog mechanism. This system allows the feed dogs to work independently and ensures stronger feeding and consistent gathering on all fabrics. When the differential feed adjusting lever, located at the machine's right front edge, is set on "N" for regular feeding, the feed dogs move the same distance. This is the setting to use for most fabrics and applications. When the differential feed lever is set above "N," the front feed dog will feed more material than the back, and the opposite when the lever is set below "N."
Built-in Needle Threader
The Baby Lock Applaud Coverstitch Machine is equipped with a convenient needle threader that simplifies the often tedious task of threading needles, saving time and reducing frustration. This user-friendly feature effortlessly guides the thread through the needle's eye with a quick and precise mechanism, making setup and adjustments much quicker, especially when using multiple needles. Needle Up/Down Function
The Baby Lock Applaud Coverstitch Machine features a convenient needle up/down function that adds precision and control to your sewing projects. This function allows you to easily set the needle's stopping position, whether up or down, at the press of a button, making it simpler to pivot fabric, make sharp turns, or adjust materials without losing your place. It's beneficial when sewing around curves, corners, or intricate designs, as it helps maintain consistent stitch quality and placement. By allowing you to keep the needle in the down position, the fabric remains securely in place, reducing the risk of misalignment or skipped stitches.
Speed Control
The Baby Lock Applaud sews up 1500 stitches per minute, so the Speed Control Slider provides the flexibility to adjust sewing speed according to your project's needs, offering a smooth transition from slow, precise stitching to faster speeds for straight seams and longer runs. This feature is especially beneficial for beginners or when working on detailed or delicate sections, allowing for greater control and accuracy. By enabling you to set your preferred pace, the Speed Control Slider enhances both safety and stitch quality, ensuring a more tailored and enjoyable sewing experience.
Adjustable Foot Height & Drop Feed
The Drop Feed System is a must when working with delicate and high-loft fabrics. Raise the presser foot with the knee lifter or lever, and the feed dogs lower automatically, making it easy to position your fabric under the presser foot. In conjunction with the drop feed system, there is the adjustable foot pressure. The presser foot pressure has been preset by the factory and rarely needs adjustment. However, when working with specialty fabrics or creative techniques, it may be beneficial to adjust it with the dial on the left side of the machine. Decrease the pressure for thick fabrics and increase the pressure for thin fabrics.
COVER STITCH CHAINING OFF
The Baby Lock Applaud Coverstitch Machine offers the convenience of cover stitch chaining off, allowing you to easily continue sewing beyond the fabric edge without interrupting the stitch flow. This feature is especially helpful for hemming or creating long seams, as it keeps stitches neat and prevents unraveling at the ends. Chaining off not only enhances the professional finish of your projects but also simplifies the sewing process, making it easier to manage fabrics and transitions between different sections.
